This is a temporary assignment through Auburn University’s Temporary Employment Services, working for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) that is funded through December 2017, with an expected extension of funding. Work will primarily occur in Mississippi but will be housed out of Mobile, Alabama.

The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to establish and maintain a new oyster restoration/public education project in Mississippi involving regular contact with authorities. Duties will include, but not be limited to, recruiting, and maintaining a volunteer base of oyster gardeners in Mississippi; and assisting in grant writing for project continuation. The selected candidate will have a strong background in biology, fisheries, environmental science or related field with excellent written, communication (involving public speaking) and computer skills.

The individual selected for this position will work hours that include occasional nights and weekends in conditions which may be wet/muddy.  

The minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; a valid driver’s license; a vessel operator license; and the ability to pass vessel operation checkout procedures.
