In 2009, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Gulf Regional Collaboration Team and the four Gulf Sea Grant Programs began working together to form the Gulf Resilience Community of Practice. The Resilience Community of Practice is setup to allow local decision-makers and extension, outreach and education professionals to work together to incorporate all types of coastal hazards into Gulf Coast communities comprehensive plans. We hold annual workshops so that we can work together and learn from one another to develop a set of effective common approaches for engagement specialists and educators to work with federal, state and local decision-makers, such as planners, emergency managers, coastal zone managers and other appropriate occupations, to adapt and become more resilient to coastal hazards.
We can provide you with plenty of resources and guidance to help you and your community identify methods of incorporating coastal hazards into your community’s comprehensive plans.
