The Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium (MASGC) is pleased to announce Jessica Browder as its new fiscal officer. In this role, Browder will oversee and manage the consortium’s grant budgets, coordinate financial activities and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. 

Her responsibilities include financial reporting, preparing monthly financial summaries and balancing administrative accounts. Browder will also provide fiscal guidance for inter-institutional and multi-partner projects and serve as MASGC’s fiscal point of contact within the Sea Grant network.

She joins MASGC with experience as the former business manager for the Mississippi-Based RESTORE Act Center of Excellence (MBRACE). She holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a double major in finance and management from The University of Southern Mississippi and is currently pursuing her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the same institution.

Research project provides new estimates of greater amberjack abundance in U.S. South Atlantic, Gulf of America

A multi-year research project to estimate the number of greater amberjack in the U.S. South Atlantic and Gulf of America has provided new insight into the species. The Greater Amberjack Count was led by Sean P. Powers, Ph.D., fisheries ecology professor and Director of the Stokes School of Marine and Environmental Sciences of the University of South Alabama.
