Our Team

Sommer Calderone is a resource teacher at the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant-supported Environmental Studies Center, part of the Mobile County Public School System, in Mobile, Alabama. In her role, Sommer leads coastal ecology programs and hosts field trips for high school students, integrating both biology and environmental science into her teaching to foster a comprehensive understanding of coastal ecosystems.

With a background as a middle school science teacher for 13 years at Semmes Middle School, Sommer brings a wealth of experience to her current position. She holds a bachelor’s degree in meteorology, a master’s degree in secondary science education, and an education specialist degree in teacher leadership, all from the University of South Alabama.

Through her programming, Sommer aims to inspire students to actively participate in environmental decision-making, instill a sense of responsibility for environmental stewardship and encourage sustainable living practices.
