Samantha Capers is a member of our Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium Engagement and Education Team and serves as a project manager at The University of Southern Mississippi Marine Education Center (MEC), located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Samantha's primary responsibility revolves around the evaluation of the MEC's vessel-based education programs that provide K-12 students with valuable STEM learning experiences. By collecting and analyzing data, she aims to determine the significance of these hands-on educational opportunities.
With a background as an 8th grade science teacher, Samantha now works with programs beyond the traditional classroom setting. She holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Mississippi State University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in research, evaluation, statistics and assessment from The University of Southern Mississippi.

Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant offers a variety of educational experiences and opportunities for learners of all ages through its partners, the Discovery Hall Programs at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, the Mobile County Environmental Studies Center and the Marine Education Center at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.
