Samantha Capers is a member of the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium Engagement and Education Team and serves as the assistant director of The University of Southern Mississippi Marine Education Center (MEC), which is located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Her primary responsibility revolves around the evaluation of the MEC's vessel-based education programs that provide K-12 students with valuable STEM learning experiences. By collecting and analyzing data, she aims to determine the significance of these hands-on educational opportunities.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Mississippi State University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in research, evaluation, statistics and assessment at The University of Southern Mississippi.

Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant offers a variety of educational experiences and opportunities for learners of all ages through its partners, the Discovery Hall Programs at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, the Mobile County Environmental Studies Center and the Marine Education Center at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.
