Andrew Medhurst assists in leading trainings and workshops for Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant's COAST (Community Outreach and Strategic Training) Resilience Institute. The COAST Resilience Institute is a training program aimed at equipping local leaders, municipal staff and community decision-makers with the latest science-based research for enhancing decision-making and increasing resilience.

Andrew also is a resilience coordinator with Mississippi State University's Program for Local Adaptation to Changing Environments (PLACE). His interests include improving science-based decision-making within coastal communities and enhancing coastal resilience collaboration amongst stakeholders.

In the past, Andrew worked for multiple coastal research and stewardship programs, including with the National Audubon Society as a coastal biologist in Harrison County, Mississippi, and as a coastal resource management volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in the Philippines.

He has a master's degree in environmental science from Florida Atlantic University and dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and environmental studies from Florida Gulf Coast University. He is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Master Captain and has been captaining vessels since 2015.
