Year: 2024

Relevance

Sea Grant initiated a new planning program to create a 10-Year Sea Grant Aquaculture Roadmap (2025-2035). There were two goals of the Roadmap. The first goal was to guide Sea Grant's aquaculture investments and contributions to address key farming and other aquaculture community needs and maximize impact. The second goal was to inform Congress, Sea Grant, the aquaculture community, NOAA and other organizations about the role Sea Grant has in fostering sustainable U.S. aquaculture.

Response

This one-year, Sea Grant-funded project consisted of identifying actions, opportunities and priority investments to further advance sustainable U.S. aquaculture with Sea Grant's support. The project team vetted the Roadmap content and revised it for the final draft of the Roadmap. During listening sessions, the team obtained input from 308 people, and an online survey provided input from an additional 65 people.

Results

The team released and socialized the final Roadmap in December 2024. The National Sea Grant Office and state Sea Grant programs are using it as rationale for grant applications.
