The completion of the Master Naturalist program develops a supply of dedicated and informed volunteers to assist in the dissemination of natural resource management information to individuals and groups in the community.
Response
The Mississippi Master Naturalist Program was formed with the mission of developing an organization of knowledgeable volunteers to help promote conservation and management of Mississippi's natural resources through education, outreach, and service within their communities. Sea Grant provides the network of professionals needed to implement and lead the field experiences portion of the program.
Results
In 2024, the Mississippi Master Naturalist Program held a basic training course for both its coastal and central chapters, which led to the certification of 40 new Master Naturalists. Program participants documented 4,468 volunteer service hours, valued at $149,633. Through these volunteer hours, participants reached or educated more than 9,749 people and directly or indirectly improved 557 acres through stewardship activities.
