Objectives

The Knauss fellowship provides a one-year educational experience in an executive or legislative branch office which will: 

  1. Expand the student’s experience with, and knowledge of, the policy-making process within federal agencies and Congressional committees dealing with marine and coastal issues.
  2. Allow the student to contribute knowledge gained in academic programs and provide informational feedback to programs, thus assisting in the student’s long-term career and educational goals

Methodology

The fellow will be funded through a cooperative agreement with their respective institutional Sea Grant Programs.

Rationale

The Knauss Fellowship offers graduate students the invaluable opportunity to put their academic knowledge to practice in tackling marine, coastal, and Great Lakes management and policy challenges at the federal level. Since 1979, over 1,550 fellows have completed the one-year Knauss fellowship program, applying their experience to lasting careers in science, policy, and public administration.
