The charter boats for-hire (CBFH) are included in the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 487210 or as "Scenic and Sightseeing Transportation, Water" in the North American Industrial Classification System. This industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in providing scenic sightseeing transportation on water. The services provided are usually local and involve a same-day return to the place of origin.

This blog presents two types of annual economic impacts: output (sales) and jobs (employment) for Mississippi charter boats for hire (MS-CBFH). These impacts are not additive. Each type represents a specific economic activity reported. Sales or output impacts are expressed in dollars for the year specified by the user. Output or sales are the gross sales by businesses within the economic region affected by an activity. Employment impacts are expressed as a mix of full-time and part-time jobs.
Similar trends were observed in sales and jobs from 2014 to 2023. The economic impact indicators for the MS-CBFH industry have shown a steady decline since its peak in 2016. The MS-CBFH industry has not recovered from the combined effects of the 2019 disaster and the global pandemic, which started in March 2020.

The MS-CBFH industry job impacts were about 33 jobs since 2022.
The fishing effort of the MS-CBFH industry averaged about 20,000 trips from 2014 to 2019, except in 2015, when it peaked at 42,000 trips. The MS-CBFH industry fishing effort fell significantly to about 9,000 trips in 2020 and averaged about 12,000 trips since 2021.
Most workers and owners in this industry are men. The percentage of males employed by this industry rose from 77.3% in 2020 to 79.2% in 2024. White workers and owners in this industry dropped from 85.9% in 2020 to 72.4% in 2024. The average age of workers and owners rose from 46.1 in 2020 to 46.3 in 2024.
Workers and owners aged 65 and above comprised 9.4% of the workforce in 2020 and 13.5% in 2024. Among 55-64-year-old workers and owners, the share was 33.1% in 2020 and 27.1% in 2024. In 2020, the number of individuals aged 45–54 rose by 35.6%, followed by a further 14.2% increase in 2024.
