2016 NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship
Successful candidates of this program will benefit from on-the-job training for two years with a state coastal resource agency project.
Host agencies this year include:
- San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (San Francisco, CA)
- California Coastal Commission (San Francisco, CA)
- New York Coastal Management Program (Albany, NY)
- North Carolina Division of Coastal Management (Morehead City, NC)
- Washington Coastal Management Program (Olympia, WA)
- Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (Madison, WI)
Once materials are submitted, a letter of endorsement from the sponsoring Sea Grant program director (LaDon Swann in our case) is needed in order to complete your application. An interview with Dr. Swann will be scheduled after applications are received.
The deadline for applying is Jan. 22, 2016. The fellowship would start August 2016.

These two fellowships allow Ph.D. students to closely work with a NOAA Fisheries mentor who will also serve on the student’s academic committee. The goals of the program are:
- To encourage qualified applicants to pursue careers in either population and ecosystem dynamics related to living marine resources and stock assessment or in marine resource economics,
- To increase available expertise related to these fields,
- To foster closer relationships between academic scientist and NOAA Fisheries,
- To provide real-world experience to graduate students and accelerate their career development.
The award for each fellowship, contingent upon the availability of federal funds, will be a multi-year cooperative agreement in the amount of $46,000 per year for up to three years. The applicant must be admitted or accepted into to a Ph.D. program at a U.S. university or college. Find more details about the fellowship here.

2017 National Sea Grant College Program Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship
Past fellows have worked in the offices of U.S. Senators and Representatives, on Congressional subcommittees, and at agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Fellowships run from Feb. 1, 2017, to Jan. 31, 2018, and pay a stipend of $45,000 plus some additional funds for health insurance, moving and fellowship-related activities for a total of $56,500.
Students must be enrolled in a graduate program during the spring semester of 2016 to be eligible.
