The Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, Miss., is seeking qualified applicants for an extension associate position.

The successful applicant will be dually affiliated with Mississippi State University and the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium.

The focus of this position is broad. The successful applicant will contribute to extension, research and outreach programs pertaining to coastal ecology, marine fisheries and marine economics. Duties will include organizing meetings for coastal end-users, preparing outreach and extension materials, collecting field samples, and ordering and maintaining supplies and materials. The position also calls for gathering, compiling and summarizing data, setting up tables and graphs, assisting in statistical analysis, and writing extension and journal publications

A multi-year research project to estimate the number of greater amberjack in the U.S. South Atlantic and Gulf of America has provided new insight into the species. The Greater Amberjack Count was led by Sean P. Powers, Ph.D., fisheries ecology professor and Director of the Stokes School of Marine and Environmental Sciences of the University of South Alabama.
