Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium Executive Support Associate Kay Bruening was recognized Oct. 28 with an Outstanding Staff Award from The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast for her role in providing support to the university.

A seven-member selection committee chose award recipients who exhibit an exceptional commitment to teamwork; possess a superior commitment to continuous quality improvement; and make contributions beyond those expected and required.

Bruening was recognized for her ability to determine what people need before they need it, her attention to detail and the superior service she delivers, whether organizing a symposium for 500 people or arranging a vehicle’s maintenance. She works at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Lab campus in Ocean Springs, Miss.

“It is wonderful that Kay has been recognized for her role in the administration of the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium,” said LaDon Swann, MASGC’s executive director.  “For 17 years, Kay has demonstrated the professionalism, strong work ethic and customer service that allow Sea Grant to function more like a customer-driven business than a federal/state partnership. There is no one more deserving of this award than Kay.”

Vernita Elsbeth Richard of Student Services and Lori Brommer of the College of Arts and Letters also received an Outstanding Staff Award.
