Bio

Sara Martin is a wetland specialist and extension associate with the Program for Local Adaptation to Climate Effects: Sea Level Rise (PLACE:SLR) and the Mississippi State University (MSU) Coastal Research and Extension Center (CREC). She works with surface elevation table (SET) practitioners across the northern Gulf of Mexico, facilitating communication and collaboration among constituents that need to understand vertical changes in the region’s wetlands due to erosion and accretion processes.

Sara’s role as a wetland specialist includes planning and facilitation of workshops, conferences, publications and collaborative research. Her goal is to improve planning efforts and resilience across the northern Gulf by helping groups work together more effectively, reducing redundancy and increasing understanding of the impacts of sea-level rise on the coast.

Sara also works with the Coastal Conservation and Restoration Program at MSU's CREC, where she has led living shoreline research, developed workshops for professionals and coastal stakeholders, and conducted outreach with local communities.

Sara holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in biology from the University of Alabama, where she conducted research in wetland plant ecology and marsh processes.

Program Involvement

PLACE:SLR

PLACE: SLR fosters a network of individuals and organizations working to enhance resilience to coastal inundation under rising sea levels in a changing climate.

Coastal Conservation and Restoration Program

The Mississippi State University Coastal Conservation and Restoration Program's mission is to put science into practice by providing coastal stakeholders with the knowledge they need to make sound environmental, economic and resilient decisions.

Northern Gulf of Mexico Sentinel Site Cooperative
