Bio

Hank serves as a resilience outreach specialist with MASGC and as the planning and policy manager for Smart Home America. At Smart Home America (a a not-for-profit that promotes stronger construction standards, improved building codes, and policies that create resilient communities), he supports and leads partnership development, policy implementation and community planning. Prior to joining Smart Home America and Sea Grant, he spent four years with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), first as a Sea Grant Marine Policy Knauss Fellow for the National Sea Grant Office and then as a coastal management specialist for the Office for Coastal Management.

Before joining NOAA, Hank worked with the Department of Homeland Security Coastal Hazards Center and Environmental Institute of Houston while obtaining his master's degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. His research focused on the post-disaster damage assessment process following Hurricane Ike in 2008, which complimented his experience as an insurance restoration contractor prior to graduate school. He also received his bachelor's degree in residential sciences from Florida State University.

Throughout Hank’s studies and career, he has focused on coastal sustainability and hazards resilience. For leisure activities, Hank enjoys traveling, surfing, fishing and woodworking.
